The Star Wars litter was a first for us at Polarhike!
While i had assisted in whelping litters through other breeders, this was our first planned, whelped and raised liter under the Polarhike Prefix itself.

We used an honest dog from Victoria, Magoo, Ch Icepure Midnite Oil (AI) bred, loved and owned by Beth McCombe (Icepure Kennels)

This litter was a huge learning curve, and with a litter of 10 i had to learn quick! Maiev was a fantastic mother and made our job very easy considering. We originally kept 3 puppies from this litter, that have since retired from breeding/showing and are now living the life of retired luxury.

We learnt some invaluable lessons about coat in this litter!
I think every litter we have we learn something new. There are always new experiences to be had. Knowing Maiev was clear for the Long Coat gene, I believed she couldn’t produce anything but a correct, standard coat. By 8 weeks I should have known, but I am known to be quite stubborn and had to found out the hard way.
2/3 puppies grew up to have Wooly coats and we found first hand why they aren’t the desired coat.

We only moved forward with Jaina from the keepers of this litter, who thankfully didn’t produce her coat type to any of her offspring. Given how dominantly this trait carried forward we decided to retire Maiev from the breeding program. Instead she made her reputation on the working field.

These puppies are all living their best lives as very much loved pets. Jabba will be continuing his success on the sledding field with Ricky in 2026
