Kurjak MK Lady Sif (IMP SRB)

Sif

Sif arrived on Australian soil in November 2023 all the way from Kurjak Kennels in Serbia (https://www.alaskanmalamute.rs/)
She spent the first 14 months of her life in the loving care of Nenad before embarking into our care.

When we were told about this pairing, we really couldn’t say no! Mick (Peace River’s Gather No Moss at Sunstra) had always been a favorite of mine and Kira (Kurjak SR Kira) was a bitch I had been following for a few years with keen interest.
Needless to say, We put a deposit down as soon as we heard what was in planning. I felt this lineage would help solidify a strong genotype to what we were building within our own program. I needed to add some new blood but I needed strength in a few key aspects - substance, bone and height - without losing construction overall and we felt this pairing was perfect for those key points.
It was 12 months before Sif was born and then 8 nail-biting weeks evaluating the puppies.
It was pretty clear early on that a large portion of this litter were fluffy - not ideal for the showring! that said, we really did want the lineage that came with it, and being 3rd pick on the list, we knew chances were we would be welcoming a long coat into the country. I must’ve been mad but there was method within the madness!
We knew it was going to be incorrect to show but showing isn’t everything. We picked the puppy that was recommended as the best fit our criteria and here she is! We are incredibly thankful to Nenad for the care he provided this beautiful girl, and for allowing her to come to us. We know how hard it was to let her go! We are forever grateful to you.

Sifs coat obviously comes with it’s challenges. She can’t be shown and nor should she be.
It can be hard to understand, coats like this are gorgeous to look at but not one bit functional in their intended climate. This makes them conformationally incorrect, despite it not affecting her quality of life in a home that understands the needs of this coat type.
We were blessed that the linages we were working with were predominantly long coat clear, meaning we would be able to prevent producing long coats within our program even despite Sif being a long coat herself.
Sif underwent her health testing with the following results:

HD 4.4 | ED 0.0 | PN: CLEAR | Achromatopsia: CLEAR | PCD: CLEAR | DM: CLEAR | Long Coat: POSITIVE/AFFECTED | Eyes: CLEAR | Thyroid: NORMAL

Sif has since produced 3 beautiful males in March 2025. She was a fantastic mother which is always a welcome relief! Paired with Winter (long coat clear) Sif produced 3 standard coated dogs.

We are hoping to introduce Sif to the working field in 2026, however, feel her coat is going to be a detriment to her as she feels the heat faster than most. She will dabble in Sprint Dog, having already gained her first qualify late 2025. Sif lives a comfortable happy life regardless of what she achieves in an official setting - It makes no difference to us. She is proving herself in the whelping box beautifully.

We look forward to campaigning her offspring in the future!
